Gio: Yankees can't act surprised by injury wave they should have seen coming

Things are getting ugly for the Yankees, as a blowout loss to the Rangers on Sunday made it three straight losses and five overall on their now-completed seven-game road trip.

Heading back to the Bronx, things simply are not looking good for the Bombers.

“The lineup is horrific,” Boomer said. “No Judge, no Bader, no Stanton, no Donaldson, though I don’t know how good he would be for them anyway.”

The Yanks are 20th in the league in team OPS, and while many have pointed to the team’s tough luck with injuries, Gio says it isn’t tough luck at all. In fact, the run of injuries were something the Yankees could have easily saw coming.

“Most Yankee fans are upset and not trying to make excuses for them and Brian Cashman, but when people do and say they’re all hurt, they’re always all hurt,” Gio said. “Judge was the guy they no-brainer had to bring him back. But ever since Giancarlo Stanton has been here, he spends a long-ass time on the IL…Rodon has had a history of injury, you brought him in. Frankie Montas was hurt when you brought him in here.

“You know that they’re always hurt. To me, that’s not an excuse this year…the fans should be pissed.”

Fans certainly are frustrated, and as the Yankees continue their refrain that they have to get healthy, Gio fully expects to hear those same sentiments later in the season, as the team set themselves up by adding or retaining players that they already know are consistent injury risks.
