Gio: Yankees lineup is 'littered with schlups' and have no real help on the way
The Yankee lineup was the big talking point of Tuesday’s Subway Series loss to the Mets, as Jahmai Jones in the leadoff spot and J.D. Davis batting cleanup combined to go 0-for-6 with four strikeouts in the 3-2 defeat.
Gio opened Wednesday’s show by sounding off on that lineup, which offered no protection for Aaron Judge, who was walked four times in the losing effort.
“Their lineup is littered with schlubs,” Gio said. “When guys get healthy, there is only one other guy that’s gonna come back, and when he comes back, it’s gonna take him a month to get going again in Giancarlo Stanton.
“It’s not like Anthony Rizzo comes back and you think he’s gonna be great for them.”
With seemingly little internal help on the way, and the current bats slumping so badly, Gio is having a hard time finding the hope that things will turn around, or that a trade acquisition will suddenly awaken this dormant offense.
“It’s a lineup that has so many holes, and last night was one of the worst ones ever,” Gio said. “You cannot have JD Davis batting cleanup and expect to beat anybody.”
