As Bryce Harper continues to take the MLB playoffs by storm, fans in New York are left wondering why the lefty slugger isn’t doing that in New York, specifically the Bronx.
Harper and the Yankees seemed like a match made in heaven, but the Yankees, with Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge already in their outfield, didn’t seem to make much of a play for Harper at all during his free agency after the 2018 season.
Even if there was seemingly no room for Harper (the Yankees were also about to extend Aaron Hicks after a career year), Gio felt the Yankees of old would have made room for a star whose swing was made for Yankee Stadium, and instead, they are left wondering what could have been.
“The Yankees were supposed to be the team that always got that guy,” Gio said. “When he was available, everybody thought the Yankees would be involved, and they weren’t involved at all.
“That guy should have at least been in that building, and they should have been competitive with them. It isn’t like he chose the Phillies offer over the Yankees offer. They didn’t even talk to him! They never had him in the building!”
