Gio: Yankees will come with 'fair' offer to Juan Soto, but likely not highest one
Juan Soto went deep yet again on Wednesday night, making it four straight at-bats in which he went deep after hitting three on Tuesday.
With each home run, the conversation intensifies over how much Soto will make in free agency this winter. Boomer surmised Tuesday that the Yanks won’t go higher than Aaron Judge’s $360 million contract. As for Gio, he believes the Yankees will come with a competitive offer, but it likely won’t be the highest.
“Can the Yankees actually, on the books, add a salary that is more than Aaron Judge with Cole’s salary on the books and Stanton’s salary on the books?” Gio said. “I think the Yankees are going to make an offer, they’re gonna make a fair offer, and it’s probably not gonna be the highest offer.
“It’s gonna come down to whether Juan Soto and Scott Boras are going to go for the extra money, or if they say ‘This is perfect, I get to play with Aaron Judge, I get to hit in front of Aaron Judge, it’s not gonna get any better than this with the short porch, and I’m wearing the greatest logo and most recognizable logo in baseball, in the world, on my hat and on my jersey.’”
