BT has been confident in the Yankees’ ability to put up a competitive offer for Juan Soto next offseason, and keep their newly-acquired superstar in pinstripes for the long haul.
But now, as Aaron Judge faces injury concerns with his abs, BT is worried that another season of Judge missing 50-plus games would send Soto packing next winter.
“If you’re Juan Soto, and you’ve got 147, 151 games of Aaron Judge hitting behind you every night, you’re not leaving the Yankees,” BT said. “You will not find that comfort anywhere in baseball. You’re gonna get fed fastballs, you’re gonna rake, you’re gonna win, and you’re gonna love it.
“If Judge is hurt, is intermittently on the IL, 10 days here, a 15-day stint here…and suddenly, Juan Soto gets a taste of what it’s like to be on the Yankees without Aaron Judge, which is not very appealing, I don’t think.
“If Aaron Judge isn’t healthy, Juan Soto is not staying.”
