C-Mac has long been a supporter of Brian Cashman’s body of work as Yankees GM, even if he would have taken the opportunity to start fresh with someone new after his contract was up in 2021.
But now, following last year’s disaster, C-Mac says the longest-tenured GM in baseball is as good as gone if this season is anything like its predecessor.
“This is as pivotal a season the Yankees have had in a long time,” C-Mac said.
“This will determine how they move forward,” C-Mac said. “This will determine whether Brian Cashman continues as GM. I know fans think Cashman has been given a lifelong contract…but I’m telling you, we talk about the difference between Hal and his father George, I think it’s overblown.
“But Hal, even if he’s not his father…there is no coming back from this season being a disaster. Brian Cashman cannot be the GM if this team doesn’t make the playoffs. It has to be the end.”
Simply put, C-Mac says the upcoming season will determine Cashman’s job.
“If the Yankees lose, it will be the end of Brian Cashman,” C-Mac said. “Rightfully so.”
