Evan & Morash: Is Yankees season a success if they lose in World Series?
As the Yankees extend their lead in the American League East and look to take control of the top spot in the AL, expectations are high as October approaches.
For Evan and Morash, it means assessing what would make 2024 end in a success or a failure, and they decided to set the bar at losing in the World Series.
The Yankees haven’t reached the Fall Classic in 15 years, and Morash says making it that far would be a success.
“I think it’s a complete success if they make the World Series,” Morash said. “My confidence in the Yankees has strictly to do with the American League…I know this team has flaws. If they go to the World Series and lose...the idea that they would finally exercise some demons and get to the Fall Classic, it would give me hope that the best is yet to come.”
However, there is one caveat: who they would lose to in that hypothetical.
“If they play the Dodgers or the Phillies and don’t get spanked, they lose in six or seven games and have their moments, I would be disheartened,” Morash said. “But if they lose to the Padres…then yes, it is a failure. I think opponent matters. I still think the two ultimate best teams in baseball reside in the National League, so if they do lose to one of those teams, you tip your cap, and it’s not a failure.”
Evan disagrees, and says if the Yankees get that far, to not finish the job and not know when they will be back again, would be a big failure.
“If you get there - and it doesn’t matter who the opponent is - you have to finish the job,” Evan said. “Because it’s so damn hard to get there.
“They have to get to the World Series. Losing to any of these American League teams at any point would be a failure.”
