Isiah Kiner-Falefa was nearly on the wrong end of a web gem, but instead, he wound up with his fifth home run of the season and a relieving trip around the bases.
As the YES Network interviewed Domingo German about his perfect game during the action on Thursday afternoon, Kiner-Falefa smoked a deep drive to center field that was chased down by Esteury Ruiz, who went back to the wall, leaped, caught the would-be home run above the center field wall, but came back down with nothing but his bare hand.
The ball went into Ruiz's glove, but knocked it clean off his hand, as both the ball and glove disappeared behind the center field wall. Ruiz was furious, and Kiner-Falefa was relieved.
The home run for Kiner-Falefa already eclipses his total from last season.
