Jazz Chisholm loved taking on villain role in Kansas City: 'Ain't ever seen anybody boo a bum'
Jazz Chisholm became public enemy No. 1 in Kansas City heading into Wednesday’s pivotal game three, after telling reporters that the Royals “got lucky” in game two to tie the ALDS at one game apiece.
Unsurprisingly, the Yankees third baseman was booed mercilessly as he was introduced with the Yankee roster before the start of game three, and heard boos throughout each of his four at-bats in the eventual 3-2 Yankee win.
While Chisholm ended the game without a hit, the Yanks got the win, and he gave the quote of the night afterward when asked about the reception from the Kansas City crowd.
“I ain’t ever seen anybody boo a bum,” Chisholm said, via ESPN insider Jeff Passan.
Chisholm seemed to enjoy the villain role from the start, as he was seen saying, “I love this s--t” as he came out of the dugout to loud boos when he was introduced before the start of the game. He echoed the same sentiment to Royals catcher Salvador Perez as he stepped up to the plate for his first at-bat, clearly embracing his new role as the most hated Yankee on the roster in the eyes of the Kansas City faithful.
Chisholm carried the fun to social media after the game, replying to fans that criticized his hitless night by responding, “Only here to win in the playoffs not go 4-4 and lose,” after he tweeted “Once my home crowd is cheering for me nothing matters.”
Chisholm and the Yanks will try to send the Royals home in game four on Thursday night with Gerrit Cole on the mound.
