Jerry would want redo on Yankees Harrison Bader/Jordan Montgomery trade

Jordan Montgomery stymied his former team on Sunday, holding the Yankees to one run on two hits in 6.2 innings of work, dropping his season ERA to a respectable 3.28 on the season.

As the Yankees deal with a plethora of rotation injuries, Jerry Recco still can’t figure out why the Yanks ever traded the lefty in the first place.

“It was one thing to go out and get better. It’s another thing to give up Jordan Montgomery,” Jerry said. “Even to this day, it makes no sense to me.”

Jerry doesn’t downplay the impact of Harrison Bader, who is one of the premier defensive center fielders in baseball, and his impact on the team has been palpable, from his offensive surge in last year’s postseason to the team’s impressive record with Bader in the lineup (25-12) compared to when he is not.

Still, Jerry wouldn’t do that trade again, though he still would have tried to find an alternative package to send to St. Louis for Bader.

“I’m sure there’s other ways you could have gone other than giving up Jordan Montgomery,” Jerry said. “I just think they could have done something else…I would try to find another way to do it.

“I wouldn’t make the Montgomery for Bader trade.”
