Jerry: Yankees need to eat salary, dump Giancarlo Stanton to any team that wants him

Giancarlo Stanton homered in Wednesday’s loss to the White Sox, his 18th of the season, as the righty slugger holds the third-highest OPS on the team.

But his 13-year, $325 million deal doesn’t expire until after the 2027 season, and Jerry says the best move for the Yankees is to dump the one-dimensional player with an extended injury history.

“Steve Cohen just shipped guys out and paid a fortune to get rid of them,” Jerry said. “Somebody would take Giancarlo Stanton if you pick up 70 percent of his salary. You could find a suitor if the owner is willing to spend the money.”

Boomer countered that Cohen got back prospects for the likes of Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, and while Jerry admits the Yankees wouldn’t get anything back for Stanton, having him off the roster would be a plus at this point.

“You’re not getting anything from him,” Jerry said. “Sometimes, there’s addition by subtraction. Sometimes, there’s clearing the deck and restarting.”
