Gerrit Cole turned in yet another solid start on Wednesday night, striking out seven in six innings of two-run ball, further bolstering his candidacy for the Cy Young award.
Cole’s latest strong outing gave another opportunity for Jerry to give his flowers to the Yankee ace, and Joe B was in full agreement.
“This guy has earned every penny, and I don’t think we appreciate him enough,” Jerry said. “To me, it’s him [for the Cy Young]. I don’t know how it couldn’t be.”
For Joe B, Cole is a refreshing callback to another era, and loves a pitcher that can take the ball every five days and always ensure that his team is in the game. Many big contracts for pitchers have proven to not work out, but Cole has been a home run of a signing for the Yanks.
“There’s no arm issues, no nonsense about anything…he’s a throwback pitcher,” Joe said. “This is a guy who could have pitched in the 60s.”
