Joey Gallo won the American League Gold Glove Award for right field on Sunday night, giving the Yankees technically their first Gold Glover since Brett Gardner won the left field award in 2016.
Gallo toped Boston’s Hunter Renfroe and Houston’s Kyle Tucker to win his second straight Gold Glove, as voted on by seven staffers – the manager and six coaches – from each AL team.

It’s “technically” a Yankees award as Gallo played for the Yankees for the final two-plus months, although he played just nine games in right field in pinstripes. He did play 83 as a Ranger, however, and recorded a .980 fielding percentage with 192 putouts, nine assists, three double plays, and four errors.
Gallo is also one of five Yankees who is a finalist for a Silver Slugger Award, which will be announced on Nov. 11. He and Giancarlo Stanton are finalists at DH, and the Yankees also have Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu (at second base), and Gary Sanchez.
