Jordan Montgomery took a scary comebacker off the knee in Sunday’s game against the Red Sox, but after “significant swelling,” the lefty starter appears to have avoided serious injury.
Montgomery had his knee drained and MRI and CT scan results came back negative after the 102 mph grounder off the bat of Xander Bogaerts sent Montgomery to the infield grass, writhing in pain. But he did stay in the game after throwing some warmup pitches, and he appears to be on track for his next start, playing catch before Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays.
Montgomery’s next scheduled start is on Friday against the Orioles in Baltimore.
The southpaw told reporters that the swelling is mostly gone, and he is expected to throw a bullpen on Wednesday, meaning that next start appears to be a high possibility.
