Jordan Montgomery dominating for Cardinals since trade from Yankees

Many questioned the Yankees’ reasoning for swapping Jordan Montgomery for injured center fielder Harrison Bader, and those questions have only grown louder given Montgomery’s performance since being dealt to the Cardinals.

The Yanks got an up-close look at what they had given up in the lefty’s first start after the trade, as Montgomery tossed five shutout innings while allowing only two hits against the Yankees on Aug. 6. After that, six shutout innings against the Brewers while striking out eight, and on Wednesday night, Montgomery allowed just one run through 5.2 innings of work against the Rockies, again striking out eight.

St. Louis has won all three games Montgomery has started for them, and since being traded, his one run allowed over 16.2 innings of work adds up to a 0.54 ERA.

Montgomery’s eight strikeouts in his last two starts are tied for his season-high, something he did just twice in 21 starts for the Yanks in 2022.

The Yankee rotation has been better of late, but with Domingo German pitching every fifth day, the Yanks could certainly use the level of production Montgomery is currently providing his new team.
