Josh Donaldson went hitless with a pair of strikeouts on Saturday night, and is now just 3-for-21 with 13 strikeouts in his last six games.
But Donaldson says he doesn’t feel far away despite the empty at-bats, and the boos from the home crowd, piling up.
“Actually, I don’t feel that bad,” Donaldson said. “Tonight I had a couple strikeouts. Feel like I've been working some counts, hitting some balls, got a couple hits. But yeah, it'd be nice to have a few more.”
Donaldson has struggled for much of the season and seems to be slipping into an even deeper hole in the postseason, as he was dropped from fifth to sixth and eventually to seventh in the order since the start of this ALCS. Batting seventh on Saturday wasn’t enough to get him going, or the team as a whole, and they now face the brink of elimination, with the Astros pitching staff showing no signs of letting up.
“I think they’ve attacked the zone and I think for the better part of it, they have good stuff,” Donaldson said. “They have good arms over there. can’t take anything away from them, but we just need to be better.”
