The Yankees have reportedly had a preliminary discussion with the Padres about a potential Juan Soto trade, and BT and Sal believe that move would make too much sense for the Bombers not to make happen this winter.
“Reggie, Nettles, Chambliss, and some others. Then Bernie, switch, Posada, Tino, O’Neill, that’s the version after that,” BT began. “Then Teixeira, switch, Cano, lefty. The Yankees don’t even have lefty hitters. I mean, come on, man.
“At one point, Brett Gardner basically represented their own lefty source of power…it’s such an abomination the way the Yankees have been constructed over the years through Cashman’s mistakes, their drafting, and lack of development.”
The Yankees have tried, and failed, in recent years to balance the lineup with the likes of Joey Gallo, Rougned Odor, Franchy Cordero, and Matt Carpenter, the latter of which worked out beautifully until an injury derailed his 2022 season. BT says Soto would bring instant stability to a lineup in desperate need of lefty pop.
“This is the one move, if you brought in Juan Soto, he fixes the two biggest problems on your team: who is batting third, and who is playing left field?” BT said. “Right away, it’s solved.”
Sal is in the same boat, and says the Yankees absolutely need to go all in to make this move, which would also show a commitment to signing Soto to a long-term deal.
“You gotta go do it. Go get him,” Sal said. “This is the one move, the only move, that can completely change the narrative…Soto is the guy.”
