We recently announced that John Sterling would be taking some time off over the remainder of the Yankees' season, the soon-to-be-84-year-old missing select Yankees road trips to rest those vocal chords that have been providing the dulcet tones of Yankees games and other broadcasts for over a half-century.
Rumors have swirled since about who may replace John, and on Thursday, Boomer & Gio got to announce the first two fill-ins: Justin Shackil will call the Yankees' series in Toronto June 17-19, and our own Rickie Ricardo will slide over from the Spanish broadcast to sit alongside Suzyn Waldman in Tampa from June 20-22.
Both Shackil, whom you may know as a Yankee Stadium in-game host or as a voice on SiriusXM among others, and Ricardo joined Boomer & Gio soon after their announcements to discuss the assignments - take a listen, plus a bonus clip of the Moment of the Day where Gio channels our former esteemed boss Mark Chernoff and what his take might be on the situation!
