Keith: Brian Cashman can't call returning injured players de facto trade acquisitions

As the trade deadline draws closer and closer, Keith wants Brian Cashman to skip one recurring refrain from recent seasons that always comes out around this time.

“What we’re not gonna do, Brian Cashman, is say ‘getting these guys back is like making a trade.’ No it’s not. There’s a difference,” Keith said. “There’s a big difference in going out and getting new energy and new blood to shake up this clubhouse, and putting guys in pinstripes that want to win. Not now, but right now.”

Too often, Cashman points to an injured player set to return after the trade deadline and considers it a de facto trade acquisition, but Keith doesn’t want to hear that about Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, Scott Effross, or any other banged-up Yankee. It’s time to go out and make big trades, because no matter how bad things seem right now, the season is far from over.

“It ain’t over until it’s over,” Keith said. “It’s getting late early, but it ain’t over til it’s over.

“When you look at the standings and where the Yankees are, when you look at the Orioles and how bad they’ve been, you gotta still have some hope. I don’t understand the quitting on the team because of past years. I don’t understand the thought process to be out on the season.”
