Keith wants Brian Cashman to leave no doubt at trade deadline: 'Window is closing'
Keith says there is not much to complain about as a Yankee fan right now, as the Bombers took down the Twins in Tuesday’s series opener to move back into first place in the AL East.
Still, the lack of complaints shouldn’t lead to complacency, especially in the front office, where Keith is calling for Brian Cashman to be ready for an all-in push at this year’s trade deadline.
“Do not tell us getting Gerrit Cole back is like getting a Cy Young ace,” Keith said. “Do not tell us that getting Jasson Dominguez is like getting a switch-hitting outfielder with power. Do not tell us that getting DJ LeMahieu back is getting a former batting champ. Nah, stack the deck.
“The championship window is closing. Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rizzo, these guys are over 32 years old. The Yankees have to do everything in their power to stack the deck.”
Keith would like to see the Yankees add depth in the starting rotation, the bullpen, and the bench, even with key players on rehab assignments or moving towards a rehab assignment. Regardless of who is on the way back, Keith wants to see Cashman make sure that his team is the unquestionable best squad on paper come October.
“This team is good…there is nothing to complain about with this team right now,” Keith said. “But they have to stack the deck so this team is ready for whoever they face…they gotta be better - on paper and on the field - than the rest of the American League.”
