Major League Baseball announced another group of teams that would wearing City Connect jerseys in 2024, and the Yankees weren’t among them.
That makes the Bombers one of just two teams left in the league that don’t have City Connect threads, and Keith says it’s long past time for the franchise to get with the times.
“What do the Yankees do? They put a Starr Insurance patch on the sleeve so you can look at that every at-bat,” Keith said, also noting that the only jersey tweaks made this offseason was eliminating the white trim from the lettering on their road jerseys to make them look more like they did in the 1950s and 60s. “They’re taking a step further back instead of stepping into the future, and doing what the rest of Major League Baseball teams do.”
Keith says the pinstripes and road grays aren’t precious heirlooms like they used to be, and it’s time to bring the franchise into the present and future and give fans another jersey to rock.
“There are 29 teams and the New York Yankees,” Keith said. “They march to the beat of their own drum. But now you’re lumped in with the A’s as the only lames to not go all in on the City Connect jerseys…why? Your uniform isn’t sacred anymore. You put a patch on it. You have the Nike swoosh on it.
“Why not have somebody cook up a dope Bronx City Connect uniform for the fans? You owe it to us…there’s no more mystique.”
