Keith: Cody Bellinger is 'obvious move' for Yankees at trade deadline

The Yankees are in desperate need of a left fielder, as has been the case since Opening Day when Aaron Hicks was struggling, and Keith says the “obvious move” is Cody Bellinger.

“He’s gonna move…he already hit a nice home run in Yankee Stadium for the Cubs,” Keith said. “He can come back and do that. His dad played for the Yankees.

“The Yankees have gone after the obvious move in left field the last two years. Andrew Benintendi seemed too good to be true last year. Joey Gallo seemed like the obvious move before we knew he couldn’t play here. The obvious move now is to get Cody Bellinger, a left-handed bat in Yankee Stadium.”

The former MVP and Rookie of the Year is having a nice bounceback season with the Cubs, batting .319 with a .918 OPS and 14 home runs. A free agent at the end of the season, Bellinger will very likely be on the move, as the Cubs playoff chances are fading, and Keith says Bellinger is the perfect deadline addition for the Yanks.

“Cody Bellinger can play the outfield,” Keith said. “The only knock on Cody Bellinger that I’ve heard from people is this: ‘Cody Bellinger has failed in the postseason. You’re just gonna add him to this team of a bunch of guys who have failed in the postseason?’ he’s also succeeded in the postseason…if you want to say he’s not clutch, you can’t say he’s not clutch and forget about the times he was clutch in the World Series and the postseason.”
