Keith: Does Brian Cashman have to battle with 'Yankee tax' in trade negotiations?

With the Orioles landing Corbin Burnes, many Yankee fans wondered why their team didn’t bring in the righty ace for what seems like such a light haul (two prospects and a draft pick).

Keith wonders if Brian Cashman’s reputation and strategy has to do with that.

“I’ve said this for years about Cashman. Especially after the way he came out at the GM meetings,” Keith said. “People are tired of him. People look at him like ‘What have you done in the last 15 years? We don’t have to help you. We don’t have to take your demands. We don’t have to fold and take your trades.’”

Are teams not as thrilled to deal with Cashman anymore after 25 years on the job? Do teams immediately ask for more from Cashman and the Yankees because of who they are?

“There are 29 teams and the New York Yankees,” Keith said. “Those other teams can get deals that the Yankees can’t, because there’s always a Yankees tax.”

Even if it’s an uphill climb to swing trades because of a potential “Yankee tax,” Keith says Cashman better respond quickly.

“He’s gotta do more now,” Keith said. “It can’t just be Marcus Stroman.”
