Keith is fed up with Gleyber Torres: 'You're never gonna be locked in'

Gleyber Torres went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored on Tuesday night, and is quietly hitting a solid .267 with a .786 OPS in his last 101 at-bats.

But the second baseman still is making frustrating gaffes in the field, as he did over the weekend against the Dodgers, and Keith has had enough of it.

“Gleyber Torres in that Dodger series pissed me off,” Keith said. “One of my biggest fears for this team is starting Gleyber Torres in a postseason game, and him doing what he’s been doing consistently: making errors nonchalantly, and being lackadaisical.”

Keith has maintained that the Yanks need to stop “coddling” Torres, and voice their displeasure and follow it up with action when the former top prospect doesn’t look focused in the field or on the bases. If this is Torres’ level of focus in a contract year, then Keith says he cannot be trusted.

“This is your get paid year…and you’re not locked in,” Keith said. “So you’re never gonna be locked in. this is your baseball DNA. You’re showing us who you are as a baseball player.

“That’s not OK on a team that thinks they’re winning the World Series this year.”
