Keith gives frustrated Yankee fans a reality check after game three heartbreaker
The Yankees lost a heartbreaker to the Guardians on Thursday, coming one strike short of one of their most thrilling playoff wins in years after Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton had gone back-to-back off of Emmanuel Clase to take an eighth-inning lead.
The devastating loss left many fans in a panic, as Cleveland has gotten right back in the series with two dramatic swings, but Keith had a message for fans who have suddenly lost their confidence after believing that the series would be easy.
“Get over it…everything just changed. I repeat, everything just changed,” Keith said. “We have a series now. I don’t know if you thought the Yankees were gonna sweep the Guardians, or if you listened to all the people say this was a cakewalk…and the Guardians were gonna lay down and hand it to them. This is Major League Baseball.
“I know we live in a bubble here in New York, in a fantasy world where everything’s gonna go our way, and when it doesn’t, it’s doom and gloom.”
The Yanks still have a series lead and still have Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole pitching again if needed, and one backbreaking loss only counts as one loss. For those who expected it to be a breeze, Thursday was a reality check, but it doesn’t mean the Yankees are suddenly the ones with their backs against the wall.
“I didn’t expect it to be easy…the Yankees hadn’t played that well in those first two wins in their own building,” Keith said.
“They play tomorrow. Game four. Take the game tomorrow with Luis Gil on the mound.”
