Keith: Gleyber Torres cannot be Yankees starter in October
Gleyber Torres got the day off on Monday as he continues to struggle in a contract year, but Keith is worried that the second baseman will still be on the roster, and in the starting lineup, come October.
If that is indeed the case, Keith is already projecting disaster.
“This is my nightmare in the postseason. You cannot allow this,” Keith said. “Anyone from the Yankees hearing me, please. If I could have one wish, do not let this guy be our second baseman in October. We’ll never live it down.”
Torres booted a ground ball on Sunday, which led to a run for the Rays, and his bat still hasn’t woken up after a strong 2023 campaign. Keith wants to see Torres replaced, believing that he would cost the team a game in the playoffs if he is still the starter at that point in the season.
“If he does that in October,” Keith said. “None of us will live it down.”
