Keith: 'Too many holes' to believe 'fake elite' Yankees are World Series material
As the Yankees get ready for the second half of the season, Keith says the Bombers are not for real when it comes to being a legit World Series contender, despite still being the betting favorite to come out on the American League.
“They’re fake elite,” Keith said. “They play like poverty, but they want you to believe that they’re rich and fancy and upper echelon. It’s fool’s gold.
“They have a way to completely erase all the good. They are able to just that quickly kill our belief in them.”
For Keith, the erasure of the good came on Sunday, when a 5-3 lead with two outs in the ninth inning turned into a devastating 6-5 loss after two plays that looked like sure outs were botched by Alex Verdugo and Anthony Volpe.
“I’m not here to tell you that it’s a long season and they can still make the World Series…I can only go off of what I’ve seen,” Keith said. “And what I’ve seen is that they’re fake elite.
“There are so many holes, that I can’t believe that this is a championship team. When I see that this team can’t field routine ground balls with the game on the line, I would have to be a fool to say this is a team that can win the World Series. They can’t do the regular, little things. And when you talk about Clay Holmes, that’s not a closer in October that I expect to get the job done. I have shortness of breath when he’s on the mound.”
