Keith: Juan Soto facing pressure unlike any he has felt in his career
Juan Soto temporarily broke free from his current slump on Thursday night, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and two walks in a 5-4 loss to the Rays.
It wasn’t enough to get the Yanks a much-needed victory or a much-needed series win, and as the team continues to struggle, Keith says the pressure mounts on Soto to be a star and carry the lineup, especially while Aaron Judge is mired in a slump of his own.
“It is something that he hasn’t felt in Petco Park or Nats Park,” Keith said. “It is different in New York. It is a different monster in Yankee Stadium when you’re failing.
“You can hear the fans in sections 103 and 104. You can hear everybody and them feeling like this won’t end.”
Soto’s pending free agency hangs over much of this season, and while he and the team fight to get out of their funk, the narratives around his uncertain future only grow louder and more diverse.
“I think the Yankee fans are the ones that are turning on Juan Soto now, saying he’s not worth $500 million,” Keith said. “Or they’re saying ‘Oh, he’s not gonna want to come back to this mess.’”
