Hal Steinbrenner caught some flack on social media after telling reporters on Tuesday that Aaron Boone and the Yankees will be putting more of an emphasis on bunting in 2024, which came off as a response that seemed prepared ahead of time, even if a direct question about it didn’t arise.
While Keith didn’t have much of an issue with Steinbrenner’s press conference overall, he did push back on the idea that more bunting will help the Yanks.
“We just watched the whole postseason,” Keith said. “They didn’t bunt their way to a championship. They mashed.
“With the game on the line, their primetime players hit home runs. That’s what we need. We only have one Aaron Judge. He can’t do it alone.”
Still, overall, Keith appreciated Steinbrenner flat-out declaring that the fans deserved better than the 82-win season they endured in 2023.
“He’s acknowledging the fact that we spend a lot of time and money, and pour our hearts into this organization,” Keith said. “And we didn’t get what we deserved.”
