Keith rips 'unserious' Yankees lack of urgency after loss to Nationals: 'I'll take the field'
Keith was on the air immediately following the Yankees’ frustrating loss to the Nationals, dropping two of three from Washington after taking the series opener on Monday.
It was no surprise that Keith wasn’t happy with the performance, and went off on the team and its sense of urgency.
“I get the feeling that there’s no sense of urgency to do what we want them to do,” Keith said. “As a fan, I want to win the American League East. I want to win the American League, have that top seed and that first-round bye.”
The Yankees have had a chance to run away with the division as the Orioles continue to spin their tires in the mud, but instead, the Bombers have done the same, still holding just a one game lead, leading Keith to accuse the Yanks of being content with just making the playoffs and hoping the “crapshoot” of October falls in their favor.
“They can’t have that attitude,” Keith said. “They have to think about winning every single game. Derek Jeter comes through and is discrediting everything this team has done over the last 15 years, because it hasn’t included winning a World Series.
“The Yankees have a tradition of winning…now it’s becoming a tradition of aggravation.”
Keith says he has seen this from the Yankees too often in recent years, so he can’t help but feel like this year has a good chance of ending like those years ended: without a ring.
“The Yankees are an unserious group,” Keith said. “I’ll take the field.”
