Keith says Yankees are far better than 82-80: 'So much went wrong last year'

For any Yankee fans that believe the team is doomed to repeat last year’s mediocrity, or any Mets fans hoping for an encore for their crosstown rivals, Keith says don’t hold your breath.

“People want to live in this 82-80 so bad, as if IKF, Billy McKinney, Willie Calhoun, Jake Bauers, Franchy Cordero, and Ben Rortvedt are in the starting lineup on Opening Day,” Keith said. “That’s done.

“You don’t have to apologize to me about the Yankees!”

The Yanks will have a healthy Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo back in the lineup to open 2024, if all goes well in spring training, while Juan Soto, Marcus Stroman, and Alex Verdugo have been added to the fold. Keith says that, along with the hope that all that went wrong in 2023 won’t repeat itself again, should give fans hope that the Bombers will be back to their winning ways in 2024.

“They think that this is what we are now under Brian Cashman,” Keith said.

“So much went wrong last year…Aaron Hicks is not on the team. Josh Donaldson is not on the team. Just go through some of the bums the Yankees trotted out last year. That’s not happening this year. Am I saying they’re gonna win 100 games…no, that’s tough to do. But news flash: you don’t have to win 100 games…just get hot in October.”
