Keith sounds off on Yankees 'despicable' lineup: 'They throw stuff at the wall'
Many Yankee fans fumed at Tuesday’s starting lineup for the Subway Series opener against the Mets, lamenting Jahmai Jones leading off and J.D. Davis batting cleanup while the likes of Ben Rice and Austin Wells were left on the bench.
Keith was among those not a fan of Aaron Boone’s starting nine, and fans were justified as Davis and Jones went a combined 0-for-6 with four strikeouts, and Aaron Judge, batting in front of Davis, was walked four times.
“The Mets are off no sleep and the Yankees think they can roll out this bench lineup. Shame. Despicable. Looking down on your opponent,” Keith said. “Don’t tell me about rest. Austin Wells is not even 25. I don’t care if he caught 10 games in a row. He’s coming off the All-Star break.
“They throw stuff at the wall. A nine-leg parlay that they hope hits.”
Sure, some of the lineup woes are due to a select few hitters actually producing of late, but Keith doesn’t want to see that iteration of the lineup ever again.
“Jahmai Jones as your leadoff hitter? They are completely out of options at the leadoff spot,” Keith said. “They’re completely out of answers…Jahmai Jones should ever be DHing or at the top of the lineup.
“These Yankees only have two good hitters. Luis Severino said it very tongue-in-cheek, but it was prophetic.”
