Keith: Time for Yankees to dominate homestand, take control of AL East

As the Yankees get set to return to action after an off day on Thursday, Keith believes they are primed to continue this current run and potentially take over the top spot in the AL East.

The most important bit of evidence to suggest such a development? The lineup suddenly has length again thanks to the arrival of Jazz Chisholm, the return of Giancarlo Stanton, and previously slumping bats returning to form.

“I think we’re starting to see that it’s not just two good hitters, and they do have a team,” Keith said. “Guys like Verdugo and Volpe contributing, Ben Rice, Austin Wells, we’re starting to see some depth in the lineup.”

The Yankees are set to begin a nine-game homestand, starting with the last-place Blue Jays on Friday night. Keith wants to see the Bomber bats stay how in the Bronx, and hopefully continue this run to get themselves ahead in the division as the stretch run nears.

“They’re tied now,” Keith said of the AL East race. “What the Yankees have to do is take advantage of this homestand. They have to win these next three series. They have to sweep one or two of these series and keep the momentum going. It’s time. It’s now or never. It’s Aug. 1. It’s time.

“We’re not depleted now. We’re not running Jahmai Jones out there. We’re not running J.D. Davis out there. We’re not pitching Dennis Santana or Caleb Ferguson.”
