Keith believes the Yankees could still use another starter, and a caller wondered if a flier on Trevor Bauer would be worth it.
While Keith believes the former Cy Young winner should get another shot, he doesn’t believe the Yankees, or perhaps any team in the league, will pull the trigger.
“I don’t think the Yankees are gonna do it…I don’t think anyone in baseball is gonna do it. I might be wrong, and I’d like to be wrong, because I think the guy deserves a second chance,” Keith said. “But as long as there’s cases pending, while we still don’t know everything we need to know, if you bring on Trevor Bauer, you bring on a whole storm of people that don’t even care about baseball, a whole bunch of attention in the news that doesn’t have anything to do with baseball.
“You’re just asking for a whole storm of nonsense for a guy that we’re not even 100 percent sure is an ace or major league caliber pitcher.”
Bauer hasn’t pitched in the majors since he was suspended in 2021 after being accused of sexual assault. No criminal charges were brought on Bauer, who is still in the process of settling one civil case. Still, despite not facing any legal action, Keith isn’t sure if a team is going to take a chance on Bauer this year.
“I think the only way he gets back in baseball is if someone signs him on the low,” Keith said.
