Keith opened Monday night’s show by paying tribute to John Sterling, who he had come to know from his “Tell me something cool” segment on Yankees pregame shows and by their time together in the booth at spring training.
“As a fan, as a Yankee fan, being able to break that wall down with two people you never envisioned meeting…the first time I saw John, I could not stop smiling and laughing,” Keith said. “Just seeing him and hearing his voice in person…John is the man.”
As Sterling says goodbye to an illustrious career that spanned decades and generations, Keith says fans are saying goodbye to one of the greatest to ever do it.
“So many people want to copy other people in media or online instead of being themselves and blazing their own trail. That is something I’ll take away from John Sterling,” Keith said. “I don’t want to be anyone else. I want to be an original, a one of one.
“John Sterling is an actual GOAT. Greatest of all time.”
