The Yankees hot stove was burning bright on Thursday after a WEEI report stated that the Yankees and Red Sox had talked about a Gleyber Torres for Alex Verdugo trade last season, but Keith says there is no way that would happen.
“I don’t understand why Yankee fans get so upset and buy into this,” Keith said. “Alex Verdugo is gonna be on the block, and I don’t think the Yankees would be dumb enough to do a swap of Verdugo for Gleyber Torres.
“I don’t like it at all. That’s a guy I just cannot see in pinstripes. Verdugo would look weird without a beard. This guy literally wears gold grills and chains. I don’t think he’ll fit the Yankee way. He just doesn’t look like a Yankee to me, and I don’t think the Yankees are doing business with the Red Sox straight up.”
Still, Keith says the Yankees need to make big moves to turn things around in 2024, and while he doesn’t expect that to happen, it’s what is necessary to get back to contention after a miserable 82-80 season.
“The whole fanbase seems like they’re upset, like they’re down on the club,” Keith said. “After going 82-80, I don’t know how fans would expect to win a World Series next season. that’s why you need a Juan Soto.”
