Keith doesn't buy Yankees/Juan Soto rumors: 'They're always prospect hugging'

There are now refuting reports over whether the Yankees and Padres had any talks about a potential Juan Soto trade, and Keith says he would believe that they did not happen, at least when taking into account how the Yanks have operated in recent years.

“I will believe it when I see it,” Keith said. “And I don’t believe the Yankees are like that right now.

“I think they’re still thinking about their audit and players sleeping better in the clubhouse, and other things that mean nothing to the lowest batting average they’ve had in 30 years.”

Keith would send the Padres essentially whatever they would want in return for Soto, an established superstar who posted a .930 OPS with 35 home runs last season, while leading the league in walks for the third time in his career. But Keith doesn’t have much hope that the Yankees would be willing to make such a blockbuster move.

“Juan Soto would obviously fix a lot of issues and a lot of problems, but I don’t think they’re ready to give up some of their prospects,” Keith said. “They’re always prospect hugging.”
