Keith prioritizing 'realism' as Yankees continue youth movement with Jasson Dominguez

The Yankees are continuing their youth movement, reportedly calling up Jasson Dominguez and Austin Wells before Friday’s series opener against the Astros, joining youngsters Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza, and Everson Pereira on the big league roster.

The arrival of Dominguez adds some intrigue to an otherwise lost Yankees season, but Keith isn’t buying into the hype, especially not for the rest of this season.

“The kids are coming! Yeah, the kids are coming to the house of horrors that is Houston, Texas,” Keith said. “Trial by fire, throw them right into the fire, just like they did with Volpe.

“The dream can become a nightmare. I’m happy for these kids. They’re living their dream. The Martian, we’ve heard about this kid for four years, and now they’re fast-tracking him. I apologize if I rained on your parade with my realism and lack of optimism…I’m sorry I’m still stuck in this lost season, the season after they go to the ALCS, they’re gonna miss the postseason.”

Football season is around the corner, and Keith wonders if the vast majority of the fanbase will migrate to the Jets and Giants after Dominguez’s debut weekend in Houston. It is an exciting sentiment for Dominguez to be making his introduction after years of hype, but Keith wouldn’t be surprised if Dominguez struggles while the Yankees continue to stumble towards a merciful end to the season.

“I’m excited for those kids…but I’m watching the Yankees, and I’m not fooled,” Keith said. “They waved the white flag. The season is over.”
