Keith rips Brian Cashman, Yankees for taking half measures in offseason after ALCS berth

As the 2023 season inches closer to a disastrous ending without a playoff berth, Keith McPherson can’t forgive Brian Cashman and company for doing so little in an offseason where the team publicly stated its feeling that the roster was near championship caliber, and after there seemed to be only one team standing in their way in the American League.

“If you feel like you were that close to winning a World Series, why didn’t you stack the deck?” Keith said. “Everyone knows nobody goes back-to-back anymore. The last team to do it was you guys when you three-peated…so after the Astros beat you and went on to win the World Series, wouldn’t you think we need to ante up and push our chips all the way into the middle and add around the pillars of our team in Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole?

“We know Brian Cashman screwed up royally. He didn’t want to sign an outfielder. You went into the seasons depending on Judge to stay healthy in right, on Harrison Bader - who you acquired in a walking boot - in center field.
That didn’t happen. Left field, you said Oswaldo Cabrera was good to go. He started Opening Day, only because you wanted to dodge the boos for Aaron Hicks, who we told you he couldn’t play.”

The neglect of the roster didn’t end at left field, as Keith sounded off on the areas of the lineup that went unchecked over the winter, which was unforgiveable for a team that has Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole in their prime.

“At third base, you said the same thing about Josh Donaldson,” Keith said. “I don’t know…after what you saw last year, made you go into this season and say ‘Yeah, he’s gonna have a bounceback year.’ They built this whole roster, and this whole year, out of hope.

“All of the shortcuts and Band-Aids finally caught up to them…the richest franchise in baseball went bargain shopping and clearance shopping. It doesn’t make any sense.”
