Keith says Juan Soto 'spat on' Yankee allure in favor of 'the almighty dollar'

As the Yankees deal with the fallout of losing Juan Soto to the crosstown rival Mets, Keith McPherson says the most successful franchise in sports history is dealing with an identity crisis.

After all, aren’t the Yanks typically the team that the stars want to play for and settle down with for the rest of their accomplished careers?

“This is what the Yankees are supposed to do,” Keith said. “The Yankees are supposed to have multiple star players. The Yankees are so famous, they don’t need the names on the back of their jerseys. This is the mecca of baseball, where everyone wants to come play. Yeah, okay.”

Many wondered, but mainly doubted, if Soto would take less money to stay in the Bronx thanks to the “allure” of the pinstripes and the Yankees’ deep history. But he went with the millions more that Steve Cohen offered, and Keith says those pinstripes don’t have the same aura anymore.

“Juan Soto spat on that. Juan Soto looked at the Yankee pinstripes, the Bleacher Creatures, the roll call, being the first Dominican in Monument Park…he laughed at all that,” Keith said. “That wasn’t what he was looking for. It was all about the almighty dollar.

“As much as we wanted to convince ourselves otherwise…he doesn’t want to live in Aaron Judge’s shadow.”
