Keith sounds off on Clay Holmes, Yankees lineup shuffling

Keith opened Monday night’s show channeling his “Negative Keith-y,” sounding off on Clay Holmes and the Yankee issues that has him concerned about the 2024 season ending in disappointment.

“Clay Holmes is not my closer. He hasn’t been my closer for months now,” Keith said, still annoyed at the Yankee closer blowing his 10th save of the year on Sunday night. “You run Clay Holmes out there over and over and over again. That’s insanity. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

“Don’t piss on my head and tell me it’s raining when you say ‘He had good pitches, he located his stuff.’ There’s always an excuse. There’s always some type of reason why this guy didn’t do his job.”

Keith also took issues with the Yankees lineup construction in their weekend series against the Tigers, and an offense that didn’t muster much, scoring five runs in the three-game set. That kind of performance didn’t inspire much hope for Keith, who worries that the bats could go silent again in October, Holmes could implode in critical spots, and the Yanks could be on their way to an early exit if things don’t change.

“Man, the Yankees have to lead the league in different lineups every single year. Why?” Keith said. “You don’t get a trophy for that.

“This could end in the Wild Card round. That would be terrible.”
