Keith: Yankees don't seem to care about Subway Series as much as fans, or Mets, do

After another loss to the Mets on Tuesday night, Keith once again declared that the Yankees are making it clear that they don’t put as much stock in the Subway Series as the fans, or even their New York rivals, do.

Keith sees that trend stretching back years, and says it continued on Tuesday in the Bronx with the Yanks trotting out a lineup that included Jahmai Jones leading off and J.D. Davis batting cleanup.

“I said the Yankees don’t care about these games,” Keith said. “You’ve heard me say the Subway Series is the most overhyped rivalry in baseball.

“The Yankees don’t look at this rivalry, this battle, the same way that the fans do or the Mets do.
They actually decided in 2022 to pinch hit one of the worst hitters in Yankee history, Joey Gallo, and what did Buck Showalter do? He brought in Edwin Diaz.”

Fast forward two years, and the Mets have taken all three Subway Series games so far, with a chance to sweep on Wednesday night, and the Yankees continue to toy with their lineup in an effort to wake up what is a dormant offense outside of Juan Soto and Aaron Judge.

“The Make it Happen Mets didn’t make any excuses,” Keith said. “They knew one win takes the series. One win means bragging rights.”
