As Jasson Dominguez’s rehab assignment is extended 10 days and elevated to the Triple-A level, Keith says it is going to be time to make a decision soon on the Yankees’ top prospect, and he says, as long as Dominguez keeps hitting, the Yanks should bring him up to the bigs when his rehab assignment is over.
“I don’t care about service time or none of that either,” Keith said. “If you’re going all in to win this whole thing this year, you bring him up. If he keeps hitting the way he’s hitting against Double-A, Triple-A, whatever, it’s an obvious sign that this man belongs.
“What do they do with Dominguez, just leave him there until September? Trent Grisham as a throw-in in the Juan Soto deal…he hasn’t hit, he hasn’t been effective at all. It’s hard for him to get going once every other series. But why not make that Jasson Dominguez’s role? And maybe later in the season, those opportunities come up more.”
Dominguez is batting .315 with a .939 OPS in the minors this season, after exploding onto the scene last year with four home runs in eight games in the majors before Tommy John surgery ended his season. The Yankees, unlike years past, have been largely healthy in terms of their position players this season, but Keith says, in an all-in year, you make room for a hitter like Dominguez.
“There’s options there with him at the major league level,” Keith said. “This young man did it at the major league level last year…if he’s healthy, if he starts dominating with the RailRiders…send him, and we’ll figure out what to do with Trent Grisham.”
