Keith: Yankees need to go all in on adding more pitching, even if it means parting with bats

As the new year approaches, the Yankees are still in need of bolstering their starting rotation in life after Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Keith says Brian Cashman needs to get to work, even if it means pressing the Brewers for Corbin Burnes.

“We need starters and relievers still,” Keith said. “You traded away all the young prospects and young pitching depth. You have to replenish somehow.

“I don’t care if you have to trade [Oswald] Peraza and [Everson] Pereira. I don’t care if you even have to trade Gleyber Torres. You can never have enough pitching.”

The rotation behind Gerrit Cole is filled with question marks, whether it be due to injury or recent poor performance. Keith says the rest of the American League has question marks of its own, so it’s on Cashman to eliminate the questions within the Yanks and truly go all in on 2024.

“The American League is wide open, and if you’ve got a 1-2 punch in your lineup of Juan Soto and Aaron Judge…go get the pitching,” Keith said. “I can’t expect Gerrit Cole to go back-to-back Cy Young years. I can’t expect Nestor Cortes to return to All-Star form. I have no idea what Carlos Rodon is gonna be this year…they have to go get another guy just in case Clarke Schmidt isn’t good enough to be a three or four.”
