Aaron Judge picked up a hit for the third straight game on Wednesday, going 1-for-3 with a walk a night after he blasted a home run.
Judge, one of the Yankees’ only sources of consistent offense this season (when healthy), sports a stellar .904 OPS since returning from the IL, but Keith says the Bombers need to play it safe and shut Judge down for the year, considering the Bombers are going nowhere at this point.
“Shut him down. Let him get surgery on his toe,” Keith said. “Shut Aaron Judge down. He’s signed for eight more years. You need that guy. He’s actually the one guy you hit on in the draft and developed into a star, and he’s compromised.”
The Yankees could still go on a run to get back in the playoff race, but at 5.5 games back with six weeks to go, Keith says it’s time to throw in the towel and protect the organization’s greatest asset and biggest investment.
“You have to protect him from himself,” Keith said. “As the captain, of course he wants to go out there and lead, and that they can make a run, but the organization doesn’t think they can make a run.”
