John Sterling announced his retirement on Monday, bringing an end to an iconic broadcasting career that has spanned decades, nearly three of them coming in the Bronx as the radio voice of the Yankees.
Since Sterling took the job in 1989, his trademark home run calls have been a highlight of listening to Yankee games, as Sterling boasted an incredible ability to come up with a new call for each player, from “An A-Bomb from A-Rod” to “Bern baby Bern.”
So, what better way to honor Sterling’s incredible career than by listening back to some of his most memorable calls on dozens of former and current Yanks? You can do that by listening to the clip above.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy, and then be sure to honor Sterling at Yankee Stadium before Saturday’s game against the Rays.
