It’s a rite of passage many Yankees go through the minute they sign with or are acquired by the Bombers: shaving off any facial hair and/or cutting their hair to conform to the team’s policies.
Some are much more memorable than others – see also Caveman Johnny Damon, or Andrew McCutchen holding his son so he would recognize him as he trimmed down – but the latest is Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who documented the loss of his beard on Twitter Monday morning:
Kiner-Falefa was one of three players acquired Sunday in a blockbuster deal with the Twins, one that sent Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela to Minnesota for Kiner-Falefa, Josh Donaldson, and catcher Ben Rortvedt.
The former Gold Glove third baseman moved to shortstop last season and will now become the Yankees’ SS, technically on his third team in a week after the Rangers dealt him to the Twins shortly after the lockout ended.
This time, though, he seems here to stay…and ecstatic to be the next successor to a recent Hall of Famer.
