LOOK: Joey Gallo nearly gets second career inside-the-park homer on Red Sox gaffe

Only one of Joey Gallo’s 168 career homers was an inside-the-parker, a feat he accomplished back in 2017 with the Rangers when he smashed one against the shift to left field, and it careened off the wall at Globe Life Park and away from all of Toronto’s outfielders for a four-bagger.

He almost got his second Friday night, this time in an entirely different way: when Red Sox right fielder Christian Arroyo completely lost the ball in the Fenway Park lights, and it landed behind him and to his left:

Gallo didn’t appear to be hustling out of the box, as it seemed like a routine fly ball that was probably going to end up a sac fly, with a hit probability of one percent – but he still almost got all four, only for Boston’s 9-4-2 relay coming up the line just enough for Christian Vazquez to tag Gallo as he tried for the plate.

Still, it goes down as the eighth triple of Gallo’s career, and it was two RBI to give the Yankees a 7-2 lead in a game they eventually won 12-5. It surely would have been nice for him, though, as that triple was his only hit in five plate appearances Friday, and Gallo is now slashing .166/.285/.341 with 10 homers and 21 RBI in 69 games this season.
