Luis Severino’s struggles continued on Sunday night in Baltimore, as the righty was pounded for nine runs on 10 hits in just 3.1 innings of work, giving the Yanks little chance to take an important series against the Orioles.
It was the third time already this season that Severino has allowed at least seven runs in a start, as his ERA now stands at a bloated 7.49.
“Right now, I feel like the worst pitcher in the game,” Severino said. “No doubt about it.”
Severino had looked to be showing some signs of improvement in his previous to starts, allowing four runs over 11.2 innings while flashing 100 mph on his fastball, but he came crashing back down on Sunday, leaving the Yankees with a potentially tough decision with Nestor Cortes on his way back from injury, and no room left for error.
Severino pledged that he will continue working to try and find his typical form, but on Sunday, the only answer he came away with from his outing was that he was nowhere close to good enough.
“Terrible. Nothing was working today,” Severino said. “Leaking all over the place. Nothing that I do is working…I feel like I’m not even contributing to this team.”
