Luis Severino 'having the worst year of my life in baseball' after latest disaster

Skipping the first inning brought no improvements for the struggling Luis Severino, who came in after opener Ian Hamilton on Wednesday night, only to allow four runs in two innings of work in another Yankee loss, which lifted his season ERA to 8.06.

As his time with the Yankees pitching staff seems to be nearing a close, the former Cy Young candidate feels he has reached bottom.

“I’m just having the worst year of my life in baseball,” Severino said. “I have to continue. I’m not going to stop here. I’m just going to try and get better.”

Severino voiced his support of the idea to have him skip the first inning, which has been a consistent disaster for him so far this season, as the team and the righty look for any way to find his old form.

“Every time I go up there I hope it works. I thought it was a good idea,” Severino said. “I’ve been having some troubles in the first inning and they were trying to bring me out in the second inning to see if something happens. It didn’t happen. But like I said, I'm going to keep working to get better

“I love being a starter but right now this year has not been working. I’m going to try my best and keep working. As I said before, this team is trying different ways to get wins, to get me out there, to get rolling. So hopefully with [Matt] Blake and the other guys I can find something that can help me.”
